HISTORY
Château de Beaulieu is recognised for the beauty and charm of its architecture, and is designated a Monument Historique. The Château was formerly the private residence of the regional Préfet, the political chief of the department of Maine-et-Loire. Beaulieu had been built in the 18th century as the family home of the renowned royal architect Jean Drapeau. Michel Debré, who would later become Prime Minister of the Fifth French Republic, wrote of his travels through Saumur during the 1940s: "I stop at Beaulieu home of M and Mme Croissandeau, friends who often welcomed me before. I give my name and Mme Croissandeau kisses me while crying... M Croissandeau, who was a cavalry officer, is intrigued to see me riding a bicycle, in the name of the Council of State"!
The Château stands just 200 meters from the banks of the River Loire, and is only 2 km from the lovely old town of Saumur. From here, you can easily visit the famous treasures of the Loire Valley: the Château of Saumur, the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud, the French National School of Equitation, the famous Cadre Noir, the troglodytic cave dwellings, and the wonderful towns of Angers, Chinon, Tours, the many chateaux along the Loire, and world-renowned vineyards. Saumur, the “Pearl of Anjou”, and the Loire Valley were designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in the year 2000.
Enjoy Bed and Breakfast (B&B) accommodation in this Best 2021 private château (which is not a hotel) to which the owners will be delighted to welcome you. The château and its bedrooms are beautifully decorated in charming French style. Also, you’ll be able to enjoy the heated swimming pool, the Billiards Room, the terrace and the park with its rows of vines and centuries-old trees.
BEDROOMS
The Château has three bedrooms and two Suites to rent, all with independent toilet and shower or bathroom. We also have a Gite of 90 square meters in the Old Horse Stables of the Château. The Gite has two bedrooms (one double and two single beds) and a kitchen/living area with all modern conveniences.

Free Wifi is available throughout the Château, at the pool, the park, and the Gîte (Upper Floor). Château is connected to the national optical fibre network.
BOOKING POLICY
- If cancelled or modified up to 14 days before date of arrival, no fee will be charged.
- If cancelled or modified in the 14 days prior to arrival, 100% of the total price of the reservation will be charged.
- In the case of No-Show, 100% of the total price of the reservation will be charged.
- In the case of Non-Refundable reservations, 100% of the total price of the reservation will be charged.
NOTE: ARRIVAL TIMES between 4pm and 7pm.
GITE
The Old Horse Stables of Château de Beaulieu have been transformed into a charming Gîte with two bedrooms and all modern conveniences.
Price: €220 per night (maximum number of persons is 5).
SWIMMING POOL
Enjoy our heated swimming pool in a tranquil setting surrounded by rows of vines maturing in the summer sunshine!
Pool open from 1 May to 30 September.
PARK
Relax in the peaceful park with its rows of vines, bamboo, centuries-old tree, and a fish pond.

Vineyards
There are endless wonderful vineyards within easy reach, e.g. Couly Dutheil, Château de Targé, Clos des Cordeliers, Domaine de la Cune, etc. You can take a horse-drawn carriage drive through the vineyard of Langlois Château. You can also easily visit the appellations of Coteaux du Layon, Bourgueil, and Chinon. Stop for a tasting!
